Happiness Project Debrief: Postcard Project

In early January, I began my own  Happiness Project. I learned and adjusted many behaviors throughout [more on this later], but my postcard project was the most fun, as I showered my family and friends with love.

I started planning for this project in December by buying some London Cavallini & Co Postcards.  Throughout January, I committed to writing out a daily postcard to communicate my love. Given that I’m not physically close to my family and friends, this project made me take time out of my day to verbalize my feelings and to show it through a mindful postcard.

Some of my favorite responses that I received were;

Dad: Good morning, Sweet Carolina, I brought your lovely Postcard to the office today to read from time to time. Your card is SO SWEET! Mom and I loved it! [And if you're wondering, yes, my heart partially melted when I read this email from my wonderful father]

Michaela: Caro, thank you for the lovely card, soo sweet of you!! I have it with myself as a reminder to carry on:) Arrived to Belgium yesterday. Very different to New York. New Life. But am ready to make the most out of it. Today the first day at work, went very well….[To start, I love her. :o) To finish, she's a beautiful rockstar who will do extremely well in Belgium]

Kaitlin: Hi Evan and Carolina, I wanted to let you know I received your postcard in the mail. It was very nice of you to send and I was happy to know you were thinking of me. Either way, I wanted to let you know, you two have inspired me to further myself and grow. I don’t want to take no for an answer. And I
want to succeed and accomplish the goals I set.
[Heart Melt + Explosion. Simply put, she's going to go very far and I'll be rooting for her, always]

Saydra: How are things over there—I got your adorable postcard the other day by the way – you are too sweet!  I am going to google translate a tiny bit and return a cute postcard!  Now, just keep in mind that you will have to make sure people don’t read mine in the mail room in case I translate wrong and accidentally write something crazy! :P[I love this girl. :o) She manages to do 1,000 extremely well. One of the coolest people I met at Credit Suisse New York]

I didn’t need to receive a response to know I made a difference. My cousin had my postcard proudly displaced in her Munich apartment. My other friend, who just went through a breakup and was withdrawn, sent me a facebook message asking me for my number in London. My brother sent me a quick note thanking me from the airport; Evan’s grandmother mentioned it over the phone; two female colleagues mentioned it over sametime; and some loves didn’t mention it at all, and I still new it meant something to each and every one of them.

my other cousin posted in on facebook and tagged me :o)

I didn’t exclude myself or Evan from being recipients of my love.

a great way to remember moments; currently stuck in my journal

I might bring this project back into circulation later on in the year, as I had a blast doing it. Or I might send care packages to my loved ones. If you’re looking for ideas, Rowdy Kittens wrote about her Postcard Project here and Sarah posted about letter writing with Charlotte here.
